Olivia Cooke: Women who object to sex scenes are labeled “sluts”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Olivia Cooke, actress of the series House of the Dragon, says that in Hollywood, women who set boundaries for sex scenes are labeled as “sluts” or “difficult.”

In a new interview with i Paper, Cooke says that women in the film industry cannot easily set limits for sex scenes and are placed in “vulnerable situations.”

She says: “And the women who object are labeled as ‘difficult’ or ‘sluts.’ [A good intimacy coordinator] senses hesitation and becomes the voice of your objection.”

Cooke explains that while sex scenes can be very important in some projects and are an “inseparable” part of human experience, filming them can feel like “a piece of your being is taken away” if there is no consent.

In recent years, intimacy coordinators have become more common, but some more experienced actors, including Sean Bean and Gwyneth Paltrow, do not consider their presence essential. Paltrow previously told Vanity Fair that during the filming of the sex scenes in Marty Supreme opposite Timothée Chalamet, she had asked the project’s coordinator to intervene less.

Michael Douglas told The Telegraph last year that these coordinators “seem like producers who have taken authority away from the filmmaker.”
